We Made It
Over 9000 miles later, 8 time zones, 1800 litres of petrol, 24 litres of oil, 2 engine rebuilds, forty six days, and whole lot of adventure later we finally made it.
We arrive into Ulan Bator at 8pm on the 5th of September, we pulled up into the main square underneath a gigantic Genghis Khan statue and where we were soon surrounded by a crowd congratulating us.
We head straight for that beer we left London for 43 days ago, and it was possibly the best beer we could ever off had.
Mongolia is perhaps one of the most beautiful countries in the World with amazing countryside, animals and people.
Ulan Bator is great thriving city. The capitol and Mongolia is undergoing a huge transformation into a modern western nation. It is quite surprising to see a tribesman gathering his livestock in the middle of nowhere on a horse with a cell phone in his ear or a scantily dressed daughter walking down the street with her mum and dad in traditional dress.
Many people here a getting rich and quick, there are more Hum Vees here than central London. At the same time however the poor are getting poorer and the people here forgot this.
We spent our second night here helping four orphaned street kids, who where aged about 5-8. We gave them our clothes, our sleeping bags and took them to a restaurant to feed them. These kids spend the -30 degree winters here on the street.
We realize now just how much a little bit of care can do for these kids lives and how important the money we have raised is. We visited an orphanage today to see where the charity money is used, and we could see how valuable these charities are to children’s lives.
If you haven’t sponsored us, please do as every last penny matter so much.
On a lighter note, we are going to let you all know of our amazing journey!
Take care everybody and have fun!
Rob & Helen.
